We would like to update you on a situation that occurred this morning at the City of Syracuse Water Treatment Plant, located in the Village of Skaneateles, which resulted in a road closure on a portion of Genesee Street.
It is our understanding that there was a chemical containment breach within the City of Syracuse Water Treatment Plant. The breach was contained to the inside of the building itself. It was not out in the street or in adjacent waterways, or storm or sanitary sewers. Emergency shutdown systems were activated to effectively contain the breach. Emergency responders on site secured the outside areas of the facility in preparation to enter and clear the building, which was done prior to allowing entry again by operations staff.
