7:41 p.m. update: As of 7:40 p.m., power has been restored. Lineman are still on site.

6:41 p.m. update: Tonight's outage was caused by the same issue as last night's: too much load going through the system. This is happening in areas across the state due to the extreme, unprecedented heat.

Our linemen will be changing fuses in the system to spread the load more evenly. Power will be fed through both the Onondaga and Jordan circuits. While this work is underway, residents on Jordan, Fennell, and W. Lake may experience intermittent outages.

We do not have an estimated time of restoration at this time.

Please see below for suggestions to help lighten the load.

Initial Message: There is a power outage in areas of the Village, we believe because of the significant load on the grid. The team is coming on site to assess the situation. Once we have an estimated time of restoration, we will provide an update on the Village website, Facebook page as well as through the phone line. If you need medical assistance, please call 911.

Village of Skaneateles — Power Conservation Request

Following the power outage on July 1, our electric crew identified strain on the Eastern Circuit due to high demand during the recent heat wave. To help keep the system stable while we complete repairs, we're asking residents to conserve electricity where possible, especially during peak hours.

How you can help:

  • Set thermostats to 78°F or higher when home; higher when away
  • Use fans to supplement air conditioning
  • Delay running dishwashers, washers, and dryers until after 7 PM or before 10 AM
  • Avoid charging electric vehicles during peak hours
  • Turn off unused lights and electronics
  • Close blinds/curtains during peak sun to reduce cooling load

Why it matters:
During the outage, one phase of our system reached 350 amps — well above safe capacity. Small reductions across many households make a real difference in preventing repeat outages while repairs are underway.

We expect the recloser replacement to be completed within the next few weeks. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.
